References are also something you should ask for. Regardless of who you are hiring, or for what job, professional references are necessary. In essence, it is feedback from another professional about how this person was when they hired them. That person can tell you whether or not he or she would hire the designer again. People seldom bring a negative recommendations. Even though they will all be positive, still read them over to get a feel for the designer you want to hire. Although, most of the time, you're going to get recommendations from legitimate businesses, there is the possibility that family members have written these, so be careful when reading them.

Getting references is very important. When hiring, professional references are things that you should request each and every time. A professional reference will tell you what it was like to work with the designer you are thinking of hiring. Basically, it is telling you if the employer would hire this designer again, or if they would not. As you can probably guess, any recommendation that the designer will bring to you is going to be positive. Still, they are nice to see. Check to make sure it is not family and friends making the positive recommendations. Also check up on the reputation of those recommending this person. While the words you use in your content are obviously of great importance, so is your graphic design. If a website or sales page doesn't look professional or appealing, people will not be inclined to do business with you. Graphic design can be a low key element that affects people subconsciously, but that doesn't make it any less important. Don't do a sloppy or mediocre job on graphics just to save a few dollars, as in the long run a great graphic designer is a worthwhile investment in your business.
